Abstract

In order to evaluate the state of the art in long range transport and dispersion modelling, the European Commission, Joint Research Centre, Ispra (JRC), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have organised the European Tracer Experiment (ETEX). This project uses long range tracer releases and measured concentration fields to evaluate the predictions of long range (2000 km) models developed by research institutes and meteorological offices around the world, in order to forecast the dispersion patterns in case of accidental releases of harmful substances.
