Abstract
In the United States (U.S.) today, 90% of all health care consumers use some form of complementary alternative medicine (CAM) as a method of health care and they pay out of pocket. Legitimizing CAM in the U.S. was spearheaded when congress funded the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCAM) as part of the National Institute of Health (NIH). Health care providers and insurance companies are following suit because legal issues about CAM are less obtuse and treatment is less expensive. Additionally, there is less chance of providers being sued for malpractice with fewer invasive treatment and outcome promises.
