Abstract
The crystallization of intermetallic compounds in the Co-Si and Re-Ge systems was investigated at high pressures and temperatures. Two new phases, Co 2Si 3 and Re 4Ge 7, were found, both of which are Nowotny chimney-ladder structures. The Co 2Si 3 phase has the Ru 2Sn 3-type structure and a tetragonal unit cell with parameters a = 5.234 ± 0.003 A ̊ and c = 8.543 ± 0.005 A ̊ which contains four molecules. The Re 4Ge 7 phase has the Tc 4Si 7-type structure and a tetragonal unit cell with a = 5.895 ± 0.004 A ̊ and c = 18.86 ± 0.01 A ̊ which also contains four molecules.
