Abstract
Successful functioning of the state in the world community, its stable development and integration largely depend on how professionally its diplomatic service functions. On the one hand, diplomatic service protects national interests, but, on the other hand, it is integrated into the system of international relations and world politics. The article discusses the main stages of the formation of the Russian diplomatic service; the main milestones of development are indicated.
