Abstract

Researchers studying interethnic relations point out that increased inequality between ethnic groups and various kinds of conflicts can be caused by making some particular language the state language [1, p. 8]. A state language that constitutes a strong means of consolidating a nation can come to be a factor that results in destroying statehood. This is attested by the experience of the countries that formed as a result of the disintegration of the USSR. Politicians need to be wise and tactful in order not to exploit language as a means of political pressure and coercion on the individual.
