Abstract

The paper deals with the outline analysis of the transitional types of the double skin side hull structures between the Classical and the Unidirectional Girder System duble skin hull structures. The KBXM family of structures, as a result of the analysis, are defined as the three layers structures. The first layers are shell platings, the second ones are longitudinals of inner and outer platings and the third one consists of the transversal/longitudinal distant members. That enables high technological performance of the KBXM structure family, nearly equal to the Unidirectional Girder System type of structure, what was the first research aim. The KBXM structures are expected to be nearly equal in weight to the Classical type of structure, what was the second aim. The further research activities on the KBXM hull structures are also defined. It was considered usually as the longitudinally framed shells separated by the transverse girders. That design is shown on the Fig. 1 and is often named as classical type of double skin structure Liulll. The improved type of double skin structure from the structure technological quality point of view, is the one presented by the Hitachi, usually named as UGS (Unidirectional Girder System) OkamotoI41. Other designs, not realized in shipbuilding practice, like for example Marc Guardian Tanker Concept GoldbachlSI, are, in this paper, neglected. outer shell plating transverse webb frame inner shell plating i V t -~ longitudinals _ . !__ _. * -— Section X-X
