Abstract

This paper reports on a development of an acoustic barrier made from Recycled Aggregate (RA) concrete. The barrier was developed by the Infrastructure Service Management Group (ISMG) at Swinburne University of Technology (SUT). An innovative approach to concrete technology including the use of selected Recycled Concrete (RC) aggregate and special concrete mix design resulted in a development of 'less-fines' RA concrete that was used for the manufacture of the SUT acoustic barrier. The paper outlines the main features and acoustic performance of the barrier. Impedance tube and reverberation chamber test results indicate good sound absorbency in the frequency range characteristic to road traffic noise, by the barrier system. © 2003 WIT Press.
