Abstract
This essay, is a comprehensive analysis of the Cultivation Theory. The theory was developed by George Gerbner around the 1960 s and has been questioned with every development in media technology. The development of mass communication has gone from cable television, satellite, video games to the current new media communication, and cultivation theory has also gone from observing the impact of television on the audience to exploring the impact of Tiktok videos on minors based on the theory in the environment of the new media era. The research analysis concludes that cultivation theory can adapt to the changing environment and make corresponding adjustments. This article discusses the historical background, development, and application of cultivation theory in new media (TikTok), as well as critiques of the theory and future directions for its development.
