Abstract
This article explores the impact of hyperthyroidism on maternal and fetal outcomes. It discusses maternal and fetal consequences of hyperthyroidism. This article will differentiate Graves’ disease from gestational transient thyrotoxicosis (GTT) and discuss treatments and management for this condition. It is the role of the midwife to be knowledgeable and understand medical conditions and how they may affect pregnancy, whilst also working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a safe birth. Therefore, it is useful for student midwives to investigate the repercussions of hyperthyroidism in pregnancy in order to deliver high standard, evidence-based care.
