Abstract

While many students may be aware of aspirin’s analgesia qualities, student midwives should also be aware of its growing use in pre-eclampsia prophylaxis. Use of aspirin during pregnancy is associated with a reduced risk of pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, small-for-gestational age and fetal and neonatal death.1 Student midwives need to be able to identify those who may benefit from low-dose aspirin therapy, how to manage related care and recognise the risks and benefits of use while providing midwifery care.
