Abstract
Stevens and Dill (1942) reported upon a collection of Aplectrum hyemale from Leavenworth County, Kansas, a wooded cove in the low bluff facing the Missouri River where it flows past the Military Reservation. The collection was made by Mr. J. V. Kelley, a Leavenworth business man, on April 24, 1941. Conversations with Mr. Kelly during the winter of 1956 revealed that he had observed the presence of this colony since 1911. He further informed us that another colony once existed across the river in Missouri until clearing of the land and intensive agricultural practices caused its eradication. All specimens collected by Kelly were dissected for anatomical studies, consequently no specimens were entered in the University of Kansas Herbarium.
