Abstract

Results of long-term original researches and the literary data on species diversity of the genus Dinophysis of the Ukrainian coast of the Black Sea are generalized. This genus incorporates 25 species. Dinophysis is represented by 21 species in the Crimean coast, and for the northwestern portion of the Ukrainian Black Sea area 17 species of this genus were cited. Dinophysis acuminata, D. caudata, and D. rotundata are dominating species; they are most common in the northwestern Black Sea. Species of the genus occur in the plankton from May to November at water surface temperatures of 7.5-26.6 °С and salinity 9.7-17.6o/oo. The maximum values of species number were recorded in August, minimum values in November. Seasonal changes of a complex of species of the given genus and peculiarities of their spatial distribution in the Odessa Bay and adjoining water area are described. The obtained data present evidence for the necessity of permanent hydrobiological control in the development of potentially toxic microalgae of genus Dinophysis, which are indicators of high organic pollution of the water environment.
