Abstract

Kerala is blessed with a number of freshwater bodies. However, the freshwater algal resources have been infrequently documented for the past several decades. The present study is an attempt to enumerate the diversity of algae of Malakkappara Sholayar stream, a small stretch of water between the upper and lower Sholayar dams. A total of 43 species belonging to class Bacillariophyceae (19), Cyanophyceae (3), Chlorophyceae (18) and Euglenophyceae (3) are reported and added to the algal diversity of Kerala.
