Abstract

The abundance of literary sources issued in the XIX and XX century and their analysis showed quick development of sciences of the nature during that period and it affected a quick growth of edition of Lithuanian books. Much attention was paid to geographical books. The following persons deserved to the Lithuanian culture contributed to their edition: S. Matulaitis, J. Adomaitis-Šernas, P. Vileišis, J. Biliūnas etc. They translated the works of foreign scientists or wrote according to their editions. The following scientists should be mentioned: A. Geikie, H. N. Hutchinson, M. Brzezinski, F. Piotrowski etc. The first Lithuanian geological editions were issued in a big run and were reissued. The books were mostly printed abroad: in Tilsit, Chicago, Philadelphia and other cities.
