Abstract

Objectives. The purpose of this study is to suggest a plan for reinforcing reasonable productivity, which conforms to a goal of establishment in public hospitals by analyzing factors related to value added productivity in regional public hospitals.BR Methods. In order to grasp a change in value added productivity by year targeting 34 regional public hospitals, the pooled time series and cross sectional data was used, in which the variable in individual hospital becomes one observed for 3 years from 2004 to 2006. This study encoded the data gathered and carried out frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis using SPSS 13.0 for windows.BR Result. (1) Value added productivity in regional public hospitals show significantly correlation with many variables of medical environment, operating management, medical treatment activities. (2) Value added per adjusted inpatient day were significantly affected by number of employees per 100 beds, bed occupancy rate, medical aid patient occupancy tare, average charge per inpatient day. Monthly value added per bed were significantly affected by hospital type, whether or not training hospital, number of employees per 100 beds, bed occupancy rate, average charge per inpatient day. And, value added ratio to gross revenue were significantly affected by whether or not training hospital, number of employees per 100 beds, average length of stay, bed occupancy rate, medical aid patient occupancy tare, average charge per inpatient day.BR Conclusions. In order to promote value added productivity, the public hospital need to be operated in a hospital level. The training hospital needs to be carried out. And, average length of stay need to be reduced, bed occupancy rate need to be increased. Based on this, the objective of establishing the regional public hospital is desired to be realized, with saying that offers medical services in good quality to the medical protective patients and the low-income brackets in the region of vulnerability to medical care.
