Abstract

The fabrication of polycrystalline Caß′'-Al 2O 3 tubes using isostatic pressing or slip casting and sintering route is described. The phase structure and the microstructure of polycrystalline Caß′'-Al 2O 3 were identified by X-ray diffractometry and SEM methods with the result that the material showed the coexistence of three phases, Caß′'-/ß-alumina/α-Al 2O 3. The ionic conductivity and the activity of calcia in the polycrystalline Caß′'-Al 2O 3 have also been measured in the present work. Furthermore, the Caß′'-Al 2O 3 oxygen sensor, which has been made and successfully used to determine the oxygen activity in copper melt, is introduced in this paper.
