Abstract

ERG parameters of albino and pigmented rabbits were compared on the assumption that differences had been caused by the greater amount of stimulus light reaching the receptor cells in the albino due to lack of melanin. A further assumption was that no other difference between the retina’s existed than the lack of melanin in the albino and equal ERG’s thus meant equal stimulus conditions. These ‘equal-stimulating-conditions’ for the receptors were obtained by shifting the albino response curve along the intensity axis, so that the a-wave response curves overlapped. In this situation both b-wave response curves at lower intensities overlapped, but no overlap was seen at higher intensities. The c-wave response curve did not overlap either. It is concluded that only the differences of the parameters of the a-wave and the b-wave at lower intensities between albino and pigmented rabbits can be explained by the hypothesis tested.KeywordsStimulus IntensityIntensity CurveDark AdaptationIntensity AxisHigh Stimulus IntensityThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
