Abstract
The effects have been determined of the addition of fat-soluble vitamins, groundnut oil and water-soluble vitamins on the development of dental caries in rats maintained on defined cariogenic diets. The incidence of dental caries was significantly reduced by the inclusion in the diet of 5 per cent groundnut oil; it was unaffected by the presence or absence of physiological amounts of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. The absence of water-soluble vitamins in the diet resulted in a significant decrease in caries but this may have been due to a lowered food intake and disturbed eating pattern since the rats failed to grow on these diets.
