Abstract

Urban fabric types in hot dry climate cities have an impact on microclimate and thermal comfort in the street canyon. Previous studies compared the microclimate for traditional and modern urban fabric, but the study of the airflow speed within the street canyon had not been presented statistical way. There were no obvious studies for the role of urban fabric configuration on the streets canyon airflow, which is the research problem. In this study a CFD Software simulation was depended to estimate and compared the speed of airflow in the street canyon between traditional and modern urban fabric for Baghdad city as an example for a hot dry climate. The results demonstrate that the traditional urban fabric had increased the airflow speed in the street canyon as compared to modern urban fabric.
