Abstract
As the performance of store lambs on silage alone is often disappointing and feeding cereals reduces margins considerably, supplementing with fish meal offered an economic alternative for investigation. The aim of the system was to finish lambs indoors (gaining 8 - 10 kg over 3-4 months ie 90 g/day DLWG) on a mainly forage diet to achieve a gross margin of at least £5 per lamb.80 Suffolk x Scotch halfbred store lambs (AV 35 kg) were offered good quality precision chop grass silage at grass for three weeks. They were then divided into Control (C) and Treatment (T) groups at housing in mid November.
