Abstract

As the number of vehicles in the world skyrocket over the last few decades, there have been many injuries or deaths from accidents due to all kinds of reasons. In this way, the safety, and especially stability, of vehicles now become an increasingly important research topic. At this moment, different researchers deploy different degrees of freedom (DOF) as they do the simulation studies for Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). Each has its advantages and disadvantages and affects the research in its own ways. In this paper, MATLAB and Simulink are both used to model the vehicles in different DOFs. By comparing the performance of each model, the effects of different DOFs on the VSC are analyzed, proving important ideas for the future of related research. The research concludes that VSC’s effectiveness is directly proportional to the number of DOFs. Therefore, future research needs to focus on higher DOFs to improve vehicle safety.
