Abstract

Addition of the antibiotic bacitracin to a membrane preparation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae enriched in plasma membrane and incubated in vitro with UDP- [3H] GlcNAc, leads to an inhibition of the formation of polyprenyl diphosphate di-N-acetylchitobiose, with a concomitant accumulation of label in polyprenyl diphosphate N-acetylglucosamine. Bacitracin also prevents to a large extent the incorporation of N-acetylglucosamine into a protein fraction.
