Abstract

Objective To observe the early impact of injecting filtered air into anterior chamber on cornea endothelial cell after manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS).Methods A prospective randomized case-control study.Forty-six patients with age-related cataract (60 eyes) were randomly divided into two groups to undergo MSICS,for 24 patients (30 eyes) in the experimental group, filtered air was injected into anterior chamber after operation, while for 22 patients (30 eyes)in the control group, balanced salt solution was used to maintain anterior chamber after operation, the parameters of each cornea endothelial cell were in the normal range among peers. The corneal endothelial cell density (CED),average cell size (AVG),coefficient of variation in cell size (CV),percentage of hexagonal cells (PHC) were compared before and after operation for the experimental group and the control group. Results On the first day after operation, the CED and the PHC in the experimental group were higher than that in the control group, while the CV and the AVG were lower than that in control group, with statistical significance (P <0.05).On the first day,the third day and the fifth day after operation, the differences in all the parameters of cornea endothelial cell in the experimental group were not statistically significant (P >0.05).On the first day after operation, the CV in the control group was higher than that on the third day and the fifth day,and the AVG was higher than that on the third day, with statistical significance (P <0.05),while the PHC in the control group was lower than that on the third day and the fifth day, with statistical significance (P <0.05).Conclusions In the early days, there is no damage on cornea endothelial cell when filtered air is injected into anterior chamber after manual small incision cataract surgery.
