Abstract

Polyribosomes are disrupted by sonication with three distinct products formed. These are: 1. 1. 60-S and 40-S subunits. 2. 2. 76-S monomeric ribosomes which are dissociated at high ionic strength. 3. 3. 76-S monomeric ribosomes which are stable at high ionic strength. Increasing the time of sonication increases the amount of such products formed but the ratio of amounts of the different products remains relatively constant.
