Abstract
This review essay argues that the book Global Libidinal Economy delivers exactly what it promises: a timely analysis of international/global political economy through Lacan’s and Freud’s psychoanalytic theorizations of “libidinal economy.” The essay raises questions about conceptualizing social transformation from this perspective and focuses in particular on the ways in which impersonal objective economic forces might be seen to shape and structure subjectivity at the level of unconscious desire. The essay considers an Adornian understanding of the relationship between Marxian political economy and Freudian psychoanalysis.
