Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the applicability of designing an art coding class based on a backward model in order to enhance the indepth understanding and transfer of software education to learners majoring in art. In this study, an understanding of the design evaluation model was developed based on the backward design model of the figure design unit in the art coding curriculum. First, the structure of contents and achievement standards were constructed according to the operating guidelines of the art coding curriculum, and the enduring understanding of the figure design unit, essential questions, and core knowledge and core functions were extracted. Second, the achievement standards necessary for evaluation were presented by developing the performance task and analytical rubric to which the GRASPS technique was applied.Third, the learning experience and class were planned by organizing the 29 activities of the WHERETO element into 10 sessions. Finally, in order to verify the effectiveness of the backwardbased art coding unit design, the task was presented and the effect on the achievement was analyzed. As a result of the verification, it was confirmed that the figure design unit class based on the backward design model had a positive effect on the learner s creative fusion ability, computational thinking, and aesthetic sensitivity. Based on this study, if the art coding class using the backward design model is supplemented and developed, it is expected to provide implications for improving understanding by design class.
