Abstract

In this article, an implication of <Suwangjeseok-geori> of Hwanghaedo Jinogi-gut has been sought. It revealed that Jarigeoti and Jinogi-gut have different Gut-geori (tune or dance performed during exorcism) composition, and presented that Jaesu-gut and Jinogi-gut have different performance method from each other. And, on the basis of the performance method of <Suwangjeseok-geori>, the implications retained in <Suwangjeseokgeori> is sought. In particular, the functions contained in Suwangjeoseok is presented in two folds. It has presented that, as Chilseongjeoseok oversees the blessings of living beings, Suwangjeoseok has the function to oversee the Wangsaengcheondo (born again after death to ascend to heaven), the blessing of the deceased, and it is deemed to undertake the role to bring out the sacred holy divine that oversees the other world, Sipdaewang (ten kings of underworld that adjudicate the trial for the deceased), onto the gut-pan (ground for Gut). In other words, the core Gut-geori of Jinogi-gut is <Suwangjeseokgeori>. Through this consideration, this article has accomplished in reiteration of implication held in Hwanghae-do Jinogi-gut, clarifying in succinct form of the functions of Suwangjeoseok, and presenting the similarities and differences of Chilseongjeoseok and Suwangjeoseok. As it has presented that there is a common aspect with Suwangjeoseok of Hwanghae-do-gut by bringing in Jungdae of Seoul-gut, several other holy divines of Mangjacheondo-gut (exorcism performance to lead the deceased to ascend to heaven) in other regions have to be considered. Through these endeavors, the general principle of Mangjacheondo-gut in Korea has to be clarified. The performing shaman of Hwanghae-do Jarigeoti and Jinogi-gut has gradually been in decline. While Jaesu-gut can fully be administered only with the understanding and knowledge of this Gut, Jinogi-gut is the Gut that ascends the deceased into the other world by relieving their sorrow, and it requires the shaman with extraordinary capability. Therefore, the role of the shaman to completely perform Jarigeoti and Jinogi-gut is extremely valuable. In particular, Hwanghae-do Jinogi-gut is the Gut that is clearly displaying the awareness on the other world as well as the deceased. In the days to come, the implications of Hwanghae-do Jinogi-gut have to be presented through the content analysis of other Gut-geori and formulate its other implications by comparing with guts of other regions.
