Abstract
A detailed examination was made of morphological variation in a population of the desmid Closterium pusillum from terraqueous habitats in Anglesey and Leicestershire (UK). An account is provided of the rarely observed phenomenon of asexual spore formation. Doubts are expressed about the validity of two of the three varieties of this desmid previously described in the literature.
