Abstract

In this paper, a wideband, low antenna correlation and high gain array antennas need to be designed for demanding of Massive MIMO system in the fifth generation mobile communication (5G). Firstly, a dual-polarized dipole antenna unit was designed using Finite element numerical calculation method. The operating frequency range of the dipole is 3.5–5.2GHz. Then a method of open scalable modular was introduced to design the array antennas based on subarray of 16 antenna unit, which brought the advantages of high integration degree, scalability and between antenna unit was developed. Finally, the performance of large scale array antennas was simulated. The simulation and measure results show that a bandwidth of 39% (VSWR<1.5) can be realized, antenna correlation between unit is 0.42, and the gain of array antennas composed of 64 unit is 26.8 dB in center frequency. This design results conform to system requirement and provide reference for formulating index standard of base station antenna in the fifth generation mobile communication.
