Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the current situation and task of media education for the disabled in order to make them express themselves and to make them communicate with the society. Based on a wide-range of literature review and web-site search, this work investigated media education programs that are currently offered for the disabled. The results are as follows; 1) The media education for the disabled focused largely on the video production. Thus the content and method of media education for the disabled should be more diversified. It also should focus more on media literacy education for better critical reading and interpretation abilities. 2) The media education for the disabled should be differentiated by the types of disability. 3) The media education programs for the disabled should be continuously operated. 4) The target of the media education should be expanded in order for more the disabled to get the opportunity of the media education. Finally, the opportunity for the disabled to communicate with our society should be expanded into broadcasting or exhibiting their works.
