Abstract

The author proposes a set of guidelines, a methodology, and a list of potential map themes (structure) for a new type of Soviet economic atlas based on the concept of complex mapping, i.e., an approach which emphasizes interrelationships and linkages between features (and their synthesis into newer, more complex forms and systems) rather than the simple exposition of the features per se. Such economic concepts as the territorial production complex and energy and production cycles provide a framework within which suitable topics for mapping may be identified.
