Abstract
This paper examines how French voices theorizing translation from 1960 to 2015 circulate in English. A small, manageable, corpus of key French scholars who have published book-length studies in different areas of Translation Studies (interpretation, pedagogy, sociology, history) is identified. The translation of their texts into English, as well as into other languages, for comparison, is then mapped out. Non-translative forms of circulation (e.g. citation, bibliographical indexing, multilingual scholarship, productions directly in English) are considered. The influence of disciplinary issues and the role of the author in the circulation in English of his/her works in the translation and interpreting community are also discussed. In conclusion, some general observations are made about other factors to be considered with respect to understanding how voices theorizing translation in French circulate internationally in English, and in other languages.
