Abstract

The chemical effects of the 132Te → 132I decay in 132Te-labelled telluric acid and the subsequent thermal annealing of the 132I-labelled recoil products have been studied. Evidence is presented that the thermal annealing reactions proceed in part through defects generated in the recoil zone during the decay event itself. The internal conversion of the 53 keV transition in the 132Te → 132I decay appears to be important in this regard.
