Abstract

In order to understand Land Use/Cover Change (LUCC) in Ejina Oasis (EO) after water resources redistribution in Heihe River, the remote sensing images in 2002 and 2006 were selected, a new set of land use categories was developed and an exertion related LUCC model was employed. Results show that: during the study period, unused land and grassland were the main land use types, both of the areas accounting for more than 92%. The area of unused land was the only one reduced in all land use types. Among the unused land, saline land and sand had a prominent reduction in number. The decreased saline land mainly changed into grassland, water and farmland, and its changed-out ratio was the biggest with a change rate of 28.98%. The areas of the other land use types were all enlarged. Among which water, farmland, and construction land had a significant increase. The newly increased water mainly came from grassland, saline land and forestland, and its transferred-in ratio was the biggest with a value of 22.92%
