Abstract

The paper outlines the history and bus rapid transit (BRT) system development in Taipei City. The system performance is illustrated based on the figures derived from official reports, and ridership is forecast for a new light industrial area in the Neihu district of the city if the BRT strategy can be implemented there. The paper also proposes a set of feasible strategies for creating an ameliorated public transportation environment which will ensure a sustainable transportation development in Taipei City.
