Abstract

The provisions of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 passed in June 1992 are compared to the earlier Act regarding planning, licensing and programme regulation, the regulatory framework for pay television, and its implications on diversity in broadcasting. The shift of the legislation from a 'public interest' principle to free market principles of regulation is discussed.
