Abstract
The present study aims to investigate the application of the traditional and alternative assessment and evaluation tools used by teachers of social studies. A scan method was used as the model. The target population of the study was composed of 241 social studies teachers. As the data collection tool, a questionnaire which was structured by the researchers was used. According to the results of the present study, it is concluded that teachers apply traditional assessment and evaluation tools, especially the multiple choice test, the open ended, short answer, gap-filling tests. Teachers generally prefer project and performance assignments to alternative assessment methods and evaluation tools.
