Abstract

For calculating the potential distribution of a Hall plate by the relaxation method a point lattice is laid on the plate. For each point the Laplace equation in difference form is applied several times, until the approximation is satisfactory. A digital computer is employed for this calculation. A method is devised which allows an improvement of the approximative equations used so far, without any considerable increase in computing time. The high potential gradients appearing on Hall plates at the electrode corners in the case of high Hall angles can be rendered with a satifactory approximation by finer point lattices which merge continuosly into each other. A rectangular Hall plate with a side ratio of a b = 2 is considered in particular.
