Abstract

Significance 2023 was marked by months of political suspense as parties attempted to form a governing coalition after the May general election. Srettha Thavisin became prime minister in August. Pheu Thai, the party he belongs to, remains under the influence of the Shinawatra family. Srettha’s chances of staying in office will improve if he can demonstrate that he is strengthening the economic outlook. The Senate will come under a brighter spotlight when new members are chosen for it this year.
