Abstract

A 13-week environmental exposure of electret ion chambers in a variety of configurations tested response characteristics of electrets produced by different methods, the radon intrusion protection afforded by different enclosures, and the residual effects of low level radiation exposures on the electrets. No significant response differences were observed that could be attributed to the electret production method. With respect to the enclosure method, the only effect noted was a possible attenuation in external exposure due to the thickness of glass in a desiccator enclosure. Some residual effects were noted, apparently with some link to the storage mechanism.
