Abstract

AbstractIn this last chapter we discuss the Einstein equivalence principle, which can be reformulated in three principles: the weak equivalence principle, the local Lorentz invariance and the local position invariance. We briefly present also Schiff’s conjecture and the strong equivalence principle. The different assumptions of the principle of equivalence (EP), which were the starting points for the formulation of the general theory of relativity, first written down by Albert Einstein in his famous work “Grundlagen der allgemeinen Relativitätstheorie” [1] in 1916, have been confirmed by a broad range of experiments to a very accurate level, and their further confirmation is still an active field of research.
