Abstract

The Einstein Equivalence Principle (EEP) is articulated on Universality of Free Fall, Local Lorentz Invariance (LLI) and Local Position Invariance (LPI): we discuss how EEP is by itself a sufficient condition to require gravitation to be a metric theory. We review the experimental tests of LLR and LPI with particular attention to the historical measurement of gravitational redshift by Pound and Rebka. Finally, we discuss Schiff’s conjecture, which hints that the Weak Equivalence Principle (i.e. UFF) is sufficient to imply both LLI and LPI.
