Abstract
The effect of small amounts of various aromatic compounds on radical polymerization of acrylonitrile in bulk has been studied. The method of comparing kinetic data has been used to determine the inhibition constants ( k z ). It is shown that an appreciable inhibitory effect is exerted by compounds serving as antioxidants for polymer composites. From the viscometric data the authors find the ratios k z / k p for the polymerization of acrylonitrile in presence of aromatic amines and calculate k z . The values of k z determined by the two methods agree so that it is possible to use polymerization of acrylonitrile in bulk as a model reaction for the quantitative evaluation of the inhibitory capacity of organic compounds in choosing stabilizers against polymer degradation.
