Abstract

There are many evidences in historiography of the 4th century A.D. about discussions concerning the concept of Royalty. It happens at the time when the Roman Empire performs an acute change in its political and religious values. New ideas about the behavior of the sovereign and his political philosophical culture are argued by Christian and Pagan authors. In the present case, the objective is to analyze the concepts that have arisen from the discussions of Themistius, the Pagan philosopher with a good influence within the imperial court, and the Emperor Julian. For this, it was part of the corpus some historical documents such as Letters to Themistius written by Julian. KEY WORDS: Late Antiquity, Themistius, Emperor Julian, royalty
