Abstract
The sintering and properties of finely ground briquetted periclase-chrome concentrate mixtures in relation to their composition and firing temperature were investigated. A combined technology was developed and introduced for wear resistant PKhShS periclase-chromospinelide roof refractories with the addition to the charge of chromite in the form of both granular and finely ground powders in the optimum quantities. The method provides a low output of scrap in high-temperature firing and the most favorable combination of basic properties influencing the life of parts in the roofs of open-hearth and double-bath furnaces operating under accelerated conditions.
