Abstract

The proposed simplified portfolio regime in India is being seen as a positive step towards attracting foreign investment. This article discusses the tax aspects of this portfolio regime about which there have been no proposals as such. Additionally, it analyses some of the relevant changes in the old regime regarding the government’s objective of providing a simple yet attractive foreign portfolio investment route in India.
