Abstract

The subject of our study is based on understanding the Seljuk Era Palace architecture and original features through the archeological finds and findings of Keykubadiye Palace which are stored in Kayseri Museum. It is not known when the palace was built however its being one of the first Anatolian Seljuk Palaces makes it so important. For that reason, the investigation of the historical data and archeological finds in this structure is our main point. The tiles having less figures in Keykubadiye Palace when compared to Selcuk Palaces is surprising in terms of decoration program. However, tiles with unique illustrations were found in a bath (hamam) in Kayseri. The tiles in Hunad Bath (Hamam) in Kayseri which have Palace tile features are also included in the framework of this study. It is known that these tiles were taken from a close Palace that it is probably the Sultan's Palace Keykubadiye. The technique and design features of these tiles show parallelism with the ones in Kubadabad Palace which was built by Sultan. It is possible that Alaaddin Keykubat who is the architecture of Kubadabad and has such a rich decoration repertoire had Keykubadiye Palace decorated with similar magnificient tiles. Our opinion is supported by the medieval sources which praise the Palace's beauty.
