Abstract
A series of novel cadmium(II) and mercury(II) halide and thiocyanate complexes with an asymmetric Schiff base ligand of 4-(3-(2-(4-(dimethyl aminophenyl allylidene aminopropyl-imino)prop-1-ethyl)-N,N-dimethyl benzene amine has been synthesised and characterised using spectral, physical and analytical data, such as 1H NMR, UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopy, melting point, elemental analysis and molar conductivity measurements. The spectral and physical data proposed a pseudo-tetrahedral geometry around the metal centre in the metal complexes. Moreover, the in vitro antibacterial activity of all compounds was assayed against two gram-positive and two gram-negative bacterial strains by a disk diffusion method and the results showed that all compounds have antibacterial characteristics. Also, the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of each compound were determined.
