Abstract

In the present study, it was aimed to purify the olive pitch containing high toxic substance by using advanced oxidation techniques using sonocatalytic oxidation method for these processes, TiO2/AC, WO3/TiO2/AC, V2O5/TiO2/AC and WO3/V2O5/TiO2/ AC nanoparticles were synthesized by first loading TiO2, WO3 and V2O5 on activated carbon (AC). Later, it was aimed to use sonocatalytic methods for the purification of olive oil by ultrasonic effect of these materials. Using the catalysts obtained in the experimental studies, changes in the colour and phenol values of waste water were investigated depending on the pH of the suspension, the amount of catalyst, the initial concentration and the ultrasonic wave amplitude. In addition, characterization studies such as TEM of the prepared materials were carried out. First, for each catalyst, color and phenol removal were compared under certain conditions and the highest performance catalyst was identified as WO3/TiO2/AC and the effects of experimental parameters were investigated using this catalyst. No significant difference was observed in colour and phenol removal due to the change in amplitudes ratio. This suggests that the sonocatalytic effect is more effective in the disintegration of large molecules, while the waste water alone is inadequate in its full mineralization.
