Abstract

A new layered cuprate, Gd 2CaBa 2Ti 2Cu 2O 12, which has a perovskite-related structure, has been discovered. The crystal structure is investigated by powder X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction and Rietveld analysis. It has a tetragonal symmetry with lattice parameters a=3.894 A ̊ and c=35.49 A ̊ . In the crystal there are sheets consisting of CuO 5 pyramids, which is one of the common features of p-type high- T c superconducting cuprates.
